Solar Energy-as-a-Service (SEaaS) for Healthcare Facilities
Innovative Power Solutions for Lifesaving Impact
At Delwit Engineering Ltd, our commitment to delivering reliable, affordable, and sustainable energy solutions led to the launch of our Solar Energy-as-a-Service (SEaaS) program in 2024. This initiative was designed in direct response to the pressing power supply challenges faced by healthcare facilities across Nigeria. Many hospitals struggle daily with inconsistent electricity from the national grid and the high costs associated with diesel powered generators, hindering their ability to deliver uninterrupted critical care.
Recognizing the life and death importance of consistent power in medical environments, Delwit developed SEaaS as a turnkey energy solution, tailored specifically to support the health sector.
What is SEaaS?
The SEaaS model by Delwit Engineering provides a zero capital expenditure option for hospitals and clinics in need of solar power systems. Rather than requiring significant upfront investment, our solution enables medical facilities to transition to solar energy at no installation or equipment cost. Instead, we meter the power consumed and charge the client a highly subsidized rate per kilowatt-hour (kWh) well below the prevailing cost of diesel or unreliable grid alternatives.
Key Features of the SEaaS Model:
- Zero Upfront Capital Requirement:
We handle 100% of the funding for procurement, installation, and commissioning. - Pay-as-You-Use Billing Structure:
Energy consumed is metered and billed at a discounted kWh rate. - Hybrid Flexibility:
Solar systems can be integrated with existing grid or backup generators for maximum uptime. - Performance Monitoring:
All installations include smart monitoring systems to ensure optimal performance, remote diagnostics, and proactive maintenance.
Why Focus on Hospitals?
Hospitals are among the most energy dependent institutions. Research shows that in Nigeria, up to 70% of operating costs in many health facilities are energy related. These expenses are largely due to:
- High fuel consumption for diesel generators.
- Costly repairs and maintenance of backup systems.
- Equipment damage caused by unstable grid power.
- High tariff on the grid (Band A)
By shifting to a solar powered model, these facilities not only lower their operational costs but also achieve more reliable service delivery especially for critical units like operating theatres, ICUs, neonatal care, laboratories, and vaccine storage.
Impact and Value Proposition
Our SEaaS initiative provides:
- Improved service delivery through uninterrupted power supply.
- Reduced healthcare costs, making services more accessible to patients.
- Lower carbon footprint, supporting environmental and public health goals.
- Long-term energy independence from volatile fuel markets and erratic grid performance.
This program is particularly valuable for rural and semi-urban hospitals where energy poverty is most severe. With the right partnerships, Delwit can scale its installations to reach dozens more hospitals across Nigeria’s six geopolitical zones.
Join Us: Let’s Power Healthcare, Sustainably
We are currently rolling out the SEaaS model on a limited scale based on available capacity and funding. However, we are actively seeking partnerships with hospital administrators, healthcare focused NGOs, donor organizations, and impact investors interested in scaling this life changing initiative.
If you would like to have your hospital assessed for installation or are interested in supporting or partnering with us, we welcome your engagement.
